I think, in general, people are bad at thinking through how old you need to be to feel alien, and old, and out of your time.
Heck, the 1840s were another world. You play a character sired in 1890, and you'll have lost everyone you knew and loved, live in a world which looks totally different. You don't need to be a thousand.
