There is a small prize for working out, if I'd added an extra verse, what its rhyme scheme would have been.
Waiting, we were, shadow-hidden
Waiting on another's calling
Restless spirits stillness-bidden
Gone before us, three went calling
Two to vouch the one hag-ridden
While she slept they suppered, stalling
Wolf at the door comes righteous striding
All risked for his thankless daughter*
Risked again to keep wolf's hiding
Bloody hell-dogs come to slaughter
Blinding silver, stern claws guiding
Clove re-knit flesh, onward sought her
Not alone.
Klaxons crowed their clarion clamour
Raven-guided, anger-fuelled
Up we raged the steel-caged tower
Spider's web with dew bejewelled
Grandma spun a cry of save me
Speaks in Riddles knew her cruelty**
He was the first.
Dazed she was found
Rescued, unbound
Carried away as raw hate pressed around
Fighting like crazed
Vision blood-hazed
Inka unfearingly into death gazed
East to her right***
And Western wind's might****
No storm could defend her*****; together they died
Lost ones released
Brother and beast
Streamed out till in thunder the building... just ceased.
Thanks to Manyskins-rhya.
Great was the cost.
Summer turned frost.
We wait to find out if we won or we lost.
