She was going to die.
It was an odd feeling. Sometimes, going into combat, she had thought she might die; sometimes she had hoped she would. But never had she felt this certainty before.
Nor, before, had it bothered her.
The Heart of Albion hadn't come. Nor had Anglesey. In the news that was beginning to leak out, she could begin to guess why. She worried about Bodmin, small and alone, and what would happen to it when she was no longer there to fight the battles of two Septs.
She worried about Robin, and the bleak emptiness she kept seeing in his eyes. She worried about Rosalie, and the future she was growing into, the future that Sulien would no longer be able to fight off for her.
And killing Riklish and his pack was part of that future.
Full circle. No choice.
She had spent so long trying to die. She really should have known that she'd achieve it only when she finally had a reason to live.
Sulien picked up her spear, stained red with the blood she'd shed, with Pierce's blood still there under it all.
"In manus tuas, Gaea Domina, commendo spiritum meum," she muttered under her breath. And then she went off to bring the fucker down.
